the golden or the platinum rule?

I am spending more time looking things up on other's blogs. It is a little strange for me as I don't usually inquire into people's private lives unless i know them quite well.
I'm wondering if anyone else has ever gotten into trouble by following the so called "golden rule". It has been the bane of my life. I discovered the "platinum rule" a few years ago---Do unto others as they want done to them.
